Thermage FLX’s time-tested method of RF-induced skin tightening continues to offer a unique combination of reliability, versatility and efficacy.

A proven track and safety record – over 3.3 million treatments have been successfully performed globally – sets Thermage FLX apart in the non-invasive skin-tightening technology category.

Thermage FLX by Solta Medical is an industry- and class-leading device to non-invasively address lax skin, differentiated by its instant tightening results with gradual improvement over time, and versatility in treating the face, eyelids and body with a single handpiece.

This one-of-a kind skin treatment uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to deliver deep, volumetric heat into the dermal layers while protecting the superficial layers, offering both instant and long-lasting results from a single treatment.

The applied heat separates the water molecules from the collagen fibrils, causing an immediate contraction, while the secondary healing response continues as collagen is deposited and remodelled. This process tightens the skin further over the next several months, with final results lasting one to two years.

The virtues of volumetric bulk heating

A clinical paper* by Solta Medical compared different technologies used to accomplish target tissue heating and found when RF is applied uniformly at low energy levels over longer exposure times, such as with Thermage, it creates more subtle and long-term effects in the network of collagen fibres, which are responsible for dermal structure and volume. This potential for altering the primary structural component of the skin makes RF technology well suited for skin surface treatments such as acne scars, cellulite, and skin and tissue laxity.

Thermage FLX’s uniform RF energy delivery creates a predictable bulk heating profile throughout the treatment area. This uniform heating, along with cooling and vibration delivered to the skin during treatment, allows for a well-tolerated treatment while attaining a clinically effective temperature. Thermage’s bulk heating method treats 100% of the target tissue layers across the entire treatment area, while minimising the discomfort and more extensive injury associated with higher temperatures.

At the microscopic level, the result of bulk heating is a minimal inflammatory response, followed by wound repair, eventually leading to the formation of new collagen. Radiofrequency delivered by Thermage shows a uniform distribution of volumetric heating in the dermis to achieve a confluent treatment effect.

Thermage FLX: The Foundation Treatment

As the skin health market continues to grow, HCPs are describing Thermage FLX as a foundational tool with broad applicability and high patient satisfaction.

Thermage treatment has a low risk of clinical complications, and the latest generation, Thermage FLX, has even more comfort and safety features than its predecessors. It offers reliable, consistent results with good versatility on and off the face, and high patient tolerability and satisfaction. The mild side effects of the treatment allow a patient to return to normal activities on the day of treatment, and the renewal of the patient’s own collagen results in a gradual, uniform and natural-looking improvement in skin appearance.

In addition to improving skin laxity and tone, Thermage FLX can be presented to patients as an age-prevention treatment; a way to “bank” their collagen and help delay the manifestations of skin ageing while retaining a natural- looking appearance.

With over 50 published clinical studies proving its efficacy and comfort and more than 70 patent applications, Thermage has earned its place as the global leader in non-invasive skin tightening.

Q&A with Dr Buddy Beaini
Cosmetic Physician, Sydney

Can you describe your approach to non-surgical cosmetic medicine and skin health?

Dr Buddy Beaini

Our approach at MD Cosmedical Solutions is to offer our patients non-surgical treatments that can assist with: preventative and maintenance skin health measures; reversing the appearance of ageing skin; and treating medical skin conditions (eg, acne, acne scars, scars, pigment, rosacea, face veins, solar keratosis, poikiloderma and stretch marks).

How long have you been using Thermage FLX and what role does it play in your clinic?

We have been a leading Thermage clinic since 2014. Thermage remains one of our forefront treatments in delivering skin tightening and maintaining firm skin.

Why does Thermage FLX continue to be your skin tightening technology of choice? Thermage has been a mainstream treatment at MD Cosmedical Solutions due to excellent patient results satisfaction (measurable results and patients seeking repeat treatments every 2 to 5 years), and its high safety profile, reliable technology and supplier support.

What do you think are the greatest benefits of this technology?

The greatest benefit is that Thermage FLX offers a single non-surgical skin tightening treatment, with progressively improving and long-lasting results, and no downtime.

Which areas do you most commonly treat with Thermage?

The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck and periorbital regions. Other popular areas are the tummy, underarms, buttocks and thighs.

Do you recommend Thermage as a foundational treatment for skin health?

Thermage is one of my favoured treatments to tighten existing collagen, and to stimulate the production of new collagen.

What do your patients say about their Thermage FLX treatments, and is it well tolerated?

Thermage treatments have excellent patient satisfaction feedback. They are well tolerated with only a small amount of discomfort. The fact that only one treatment is required, and with no downtime, is a major advantage.

Do you have any tips on the protocols you use to maximise Thermage’s effects?

The most important tips for the best results are patient selection, operator treatment experience, number of Thermage shots / repetition, and the treatment level (ie, energy used).

How has Thermage FLX contributed to the overall growth of MD Cosmedical Solutions?

Thermage has helped MD Cosmedical Solutions become a leading clinic in treating ageing skin and in slowing down the ageing skin process. Along with other treatments such as Fraxel Restore and Fraxel Dual, we can offer our patients a comprehensive approach to treating ageing and sun-damaged skin, with synergistic results. AMP
