Cynosure is heating up the market with SculpSure, the world’s first hyperthermic laser treatment for removal of stubborn fat in just 25 minutes.
Cynosure has set the benchmark with an entirely new approach that is highly successful in reducing adipose tissue in only 25 minutes. Hands-free and faster than any other treatment in Australia, SculpSure can be used on all skin types and allows you to treat multiple areas during one procedure.
Not only is SculpSure the first FDA-cleared laser treatment for non- invasive lipolysis of the flanks and abdomen, but the treatment has also received the European Medical Device Directive certification ‘CE Mark’.
SculpSure is a versatile, hands- free, non-suction device featuring a flexible applicator system to treat multiple areas of the body at the same time. As well as the flanks and abdomen, the device is also being used to target fat on the upper arms, thighs and knees.
Sydney plastic surgeon Dr Steven Liew was the first in Australia to provide SculpSure treatments for permanent fat reduction. “As a plastic surgeon I knew a lot of patients had been asking whether the SculpSure device would be available in Australia,” he says.
“Almost all of us have some unwanted fatty deposits and we have wanted something that is simple and non-invasive to achieve this, and I believe SculpSure is that answer,” says Dr Liew.
SculpSure is customisable for each patient and is not just a ‘one-size fits all’ approach. The 1060nm diode laser does not require anaesthesia and can treat multiple areas simultaneously in just 25 minutes, a true “lunch-time” procedure requiring no downtime.
“There is a whole range of benefits with SculpSure,” says Sydney cosmetic physician Dr Saras Sundrum.
“First, it only takes 25mins, meaning you can see more patients. It’s also a big win for the patient because not many people want to sit through a treatment for an hour. You can also target all different sizes and shapes to suit different people, making the treatment customisable and very versatile.”
SculpSure in action
The 1060nm wavelength targets subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) at 42-47 ̊C, coupled with minimal absorption in the dermis, allowing SculpSure to efficiently treat areas of troublesome fat.
Unlike previous procedures, there is no suction with the SculpSure device and no pulling of the tissue. The device lays flat on top of the tissue, while energy penetrates into the tissue and destroys fat cells.
Over time, the body naturally eliminates the disrupted fat cells with results seen as quickly as six weeks and optimal results usually seen in as few as 12 weeks. “With one treatment 20-25 percent of fat reduction can be seen after just six weeks,” says Dr Sundrum.
SculpSure has four separate applicator heads, which are 4cm wide and 6cm long and can treat multiple areas at once.
A controlled and well-tolerated procedure, SculpSure does not damage dermal tissue. It can be used on all skin types and features an advanced contact cooling technology for patient comfort.
“For any non-surgical or non- invasive body contouring device, first of all it has to be effective, but it also has to be comfortable, not painful and time-efficient,” explains Dr Liew.
“I believe SculpSure can meet all of these expectations. It can treat multiple regions of adipose tissue at once, in only 25 minutes, with only mild discomfort, and it can reduce up to 24 percent of fat in the area treated.”

Surprisingly, considering its many advantages and benefits, SculpSure can be obtained at an affordable price compared with many other non-invasive lipolysis treatment technologies, which in turn significantly enhances their return on investment.
Clinics can capitalise on the growing demand for non-invasive treatments for fat reduction, while the lower cost for practitioners mean they can offer better prices to reach more customers.
“Cynosure has done a great job in marketing SculpSure to encourage patient traffic for the treatment,” says Dr Sundrum. “They are quite intensive in their approach and have targeted the market through multiple advertising platforms.”
“SculpSure is certainly a game changer in the non-surgical field of body contouring,” says Dr Sundrum.
Shorter treatment time benefits practitioners and patients, enhancing return of investment. With the 25-minute treatment practitioners are able to treat twice as many patients in the same amount of time compared with other treatments available.
Additionally, the device does not have to be administered by a doctor or nurse, meaning treatments can be easily incorporated into a clinic using existing staff.
“What I do in my practice is I assess the patient and the therapist will treat them, opening up more time for me to administer other treatments,” says Dr Sundrum.
Dr Sundrum is excited about the future of non-surgical field of body contouring, stating, “Body contouring is going to be huge in the next five years. People are willing to do anything to get the perfect look for the whole body.”
