Made in South Korea by medical device company Hironic, PICOHI-300 is the only true picosecond laser currently on the market that safely implements a 300 picosecond pulse duration.

A picosecond laser system with a pulse duration closer to 300 ps can deliver a higher, more precise laser irradiation rate and can obtain better treatment outcomes. PICOHI implements 300 ps pulse duration with stable output and is gaining attention as an ideal laser device for toning treatments.

Additionally, this innovative device’s high peak power of 1.67 GW offers more power than Q-Switched lasers and many pico lasers, to provide maximum effect on tattoo removal, pigment treatment and skin rejuvenation of different depths.

A further special characteristic is that the Stress Relaxation Time (SRT) of 1um of a melanosome is 300ps. The shock wave caused by the PICOHI picosecond pulse acts upon the melanosome only, without being transmitted to the surrounding tissues. PICOHI-300 also employs a new photoacoustic effect to shatter pigment for easy removal by the body without the use of heat.

In an article published in Prime (International Journal of Aesthetic and Anti-Ageing Medicine), Mar/ Apr 2020, Dr Cha Hyung-Gi explains how picosecond lasers have steadily grown as a new laser method:

‘Picosecond laser systems deliver high dose rate irradiation to treat pigment spots within a short period of time by emitting laser beams 1000 times faster compared to nanosecond laser systems. Therefore, you can see noticeable results with fewer treatments and minimise skin tissue damage around the treatment area or any other side-effects.

‘This advantage has allowed the picosecond laser systems to have steadily grown in popularity as a new laser treatment method with worldwide attention in recent years. Nevertheless, it is actually difficult to see proper treatment effects with the conventional picosecond laser systems because the system’s stability or durability cannot be guaranteed.

‘PICOHI can reduce the treatment period by using the 300 ps pulse duration to break pigments into smaller particles compared to the conventional system. The new system can selectively destroy melanin pigments within the treatment area that allows for treatments with low risk of side-effects, such as hyperpigmentation.

‘PICOHI also activates skin regeneration and helps the treatment of pores or scars by facilitating the creation of collagen and elastin through the Laser Induced Optical Breakdown (LIOB) mechanism that uses the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technique to form tiny scars. By using the PICOHI, you can reduce complex age spots, freckles, or other blemish spots, as well as treat intractable pigment disorders or remove tattoos or permanent makeup. Due to the fast treatment outcomes with fewer treatments, it is a perfect treatment method for various patients.

‘There were times when dark spots no longer responded to conventional laser toning treatments, no matter how many times they were given.
