Lynton was formed in 1994 by a group of PhD physicists working at the University of Manchester. Lynton’s ground-breaking IPL technology was created when Dr Jon Exley, Managing Director at Lynton, was asked to undertake a PhD at the Physics Department of the University of Manchester. ‘The PhD was to consider whether we could treat skin lesions with a broadband light source instead of laser, which was traditional at the time,’ he explains. ‘I studied for four years investigating how light interacts with tissue and how we can treat different things with a flashlamp- based device.’
