Distributed by Klinic Solutions in Australia, Lipogems is a disposable device for liposuction and the processing and reinjection of adipose tissue.

Lipogems compounds the impressive potential of liposuction and reinjection of adipose tissue with a streamlined system that causes minimal trauma and generates superior results.

Lipogems is designed to preserve the regenerative capacity of adipose tissue to improve both the quality and longevity of fat transfer results.

It does this by utilising the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) naturally found in adipose tissue. The Lipogems harvesting device is designed to keep stromal vascular fraction (SVF) cells intact, which contain pericytes and MSCs, signifying a groundbreaking solution for tissue regeneration.

While fat used as autologous dermal filler is not new, this system reflects the latest in adipocyte transplant research.

Backed by longevity studies and clinical papers, Lipogems is used in cosmetic procedures, plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery and the treatment of many diseases, promoting the natural regeneration process of tissues and heralds a new future of regenerative medicine.

Sydney plastic surgeon Dr Peter Laniewski says, “Lipogems is much more than lipo-filling or fat transfer. It offers unrivalled potential to rejuvenate tissue.”

“The beauty of the procedure is that I am able to remove fat from areas where it is unwanted and inject into areas that require restoration and rejuvenation.”

“I have used Lipogems for stand-alone fat transfer for facial augmentation, restoration of volume and scar improvement on various areas of the body. I have also used the system in conjunction with facial rejuvenation surgery – face and neck lifts specifically,” he says.

Natural Regeneration

Lipogems simply orchestrates an immune response to encourage natural regeneration of tissue following reinjection.

Pericytes kick into action when a blood vessel is damaged. When they’re activated, MSCs detach from the cells and begin to secrete cytokines – cell-signalling proteins. Activated MSCs teach tissue to boost healing or generate new tissue.

After fat extraction, the Lipogems system cleans and refines the adipose tissue in a six-step reduction process. During this process, the MSCs are activated to encourage the natural regeneration of tissue following reinjection.

During Lipogems procedure, the fat is taken, the oil and blood are discarded, and pericyte activation is achieved by shaking the device.

The MSCs contained in the final Lipogems product are not concentrated, which helps achieve optimum results in fat transfer.

The Lipogems product is representative of the natural environment; the milieu is maintained. This is a new concept; Lipogems is gentle with the environment in which it is injected and the cells are kept in tact.

Significant results can still be seen 24 months on, and this is due to the MSC action within the tissue.

“Unlike HA fillers for the face, the results of using a patient’s own fat and stem cells for restoration of volume and facial contouring are much longer lasting,” says Dr Laniewski.

“Patients are delighted that they don’t have to come back every six months to be retreated as with HA filler injections.”

Lipogems has a broad range of regenerative properties. It can be used to treat alopecia, vocal chord paralysis, necrosis and osteoarthritis.

“I have used Lipogems extensively in facial rejuvenation, not just to restore lost volume but to rejuvenate the soft tissue and improve the texture of the skin. Lipogems is also a great tool in breast reconstruction after mastectomy, both to reconstruct breasts as well as augment reconstructed breasts. This includes areas that have been treated with radiotherapy where tissue has been damaged,” he explains.

“For aesthetics, it is very different to normal fat transfer. It is easy to inject and manage – and can even be used under the eye. About 50 percent of the fat is reabsorbed, but the product remains perfectly even. In two years, the fat disappears but the rejuvenation remains.”

“The reason I prefer Lipogems to other fat transfer systems is because it is a closed system that offers reproducible results. The quality of the aspirate and the consistency of the size of the particles for injection allow predictable results to be achieved. This is particularly important in areas of the face where there is little margin for error.”

The system can be used through very fine cannulas, resulting in less bruising and trauma for the patient. This offers a more pleasant patient experience, less downtime and faster recovery.

“The system is remarkably simple and does not require the use of other expensive paraphernalia and time-consuming devices such as centrifuges. Not only is fat transferred but also stem cells are transferred. The importance is that these cells play a vital role in rejuvenation of tissue and why the results achieved with the Lipogems system are so good,” says Dr Laniewski.

The Lipogems product, rich in MSCs, is transforming the capabilities of aesthetic fat transfer. Traditionally, fat transfer has resulted in noticeable facial rejuvenation results, but these results have typically faded along with the reabsorption of the adipose tissue.

On the future potential of Lipogems, Dr Laniewski says, “Vascularsied stem cells are transferred together with the fat and this unlocks the potential to not only improve volume but also restore tissue that has been damaged by disease, trauma or ageing.”

“It has very exciting potential for sporting injuries and patients who have had their skin damaged through radiotherapy. It also avoids the necessity for far more complex surgery such as reconstructive muscle flaps,” he concludes.
