The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia (CPCA) held their inaugural online education event, CosDoc2020 on the 18th October with over 20 speakers presenting from around the world contributing to it’s success.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live, work and our ability to travel. The ability to hold an in-person conference once the first wave of infections arrived in Australia meant that it was not possible to have interstate delegates or an international faculty attend. Consequently, the CPCA’s plans to participate in a traditional conference in November on the Gold Coast had to be cancelled. Despite this setback, the CPCA was determined to provide a quality educational event and CosDoc2020 was born.
The conference was designed to cater for Cosmetic Physicians, doctors, nurses and other practice staff. Whilst CosDoc2020 took place online on Sunday the 18th October, the conference material was accessible to delegates until November 2nd. This innovative approach gave the delegates the unique ability to watch all the content that was delivered on the day as well as repeat views of their favorite presentations.
With the aim of CosDoc2020 being to emulate a live conference feel; delegates had access to a lobby area, virtual sponsor booths, both networking and live chat functionality and two concurrent scientific content streams. Presentations were pre-recorded allowing late-comers access to complete sessions. During live presentations, delegates’ questions were collected for discussion by the panel of speakers at the conclusion of each session. These live Panel Discussions were also recorded and subsequently uploaded to the conference site for later viewing.
The program included presentations on injectables, thread lifting, aesthetic treatments for different areas of the face, treatments for urinary incontinence and sexual intimacy, complications from treatments as well as aesthetics and business building.

Whilst there is nothing that is quite the same as attending a conference in person and enjoying the interaction with peers which includes participating in the social functions, CosDoc2020 has shown us there is a viable alternative. Plans are already underway for a 2021 conference.
About the CPCA
The CPCA was formed in 2014 by a group of doctors with a special interest in Cosmetic medicine. The College evolved from the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia which was formed in 1997. The CPSA was the first organisation to represent the interests of those doctors working in the new field of cosmetic medicine – as versus cosmetic surgery. The purpose of the College is to provide representation and education in the area of cosmetic medicine for it’s Affiliates, Members and Fellows.
