Dr Ronald Moy, the face behind DNA Renewal, shares his knowledge about skin care on a deeper, chemical and biological level at the 49th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australiasian College of Dermatologists.
Distributed in Australia by Advanced Cosmeceuticals, DNA Renewal is a revolutionary leap in skincare. It is a clinically proven regimen that effectively repairs photo-damaged, ageing skin.
Founded by renowned scientist, researcher, dermatologist, and cosmetic doctor from the US, Dr Ronald L. Moy, DNA Renewal takes advantage of the skin’s potential to possess natural mechanisms for renewal, repair and protection.
Dr Moy recently attended the 49th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in Perth, Western Australia, to share his research and developments in the field of skin care and rejuvenation.
The meeting brought together industry representatives and international speakers to talk about new advancements in products and services.
Dr Moy spoke about the treatment of sun damage with radiofrequency, laser and PDT, whilst also examining case studies and discussing his research in skin care for the prevention and treatment of sun damage. He also presented on skin texture and rejuvenation in treating fine lines and wrinkles.
Dedicating his life’s work to understanding the impact of photo damage on skin health and ageing, Dr Moy has gained international acclaim through his unwavering commitment to pursuing innovation in the field of skin care and his investigation of the role of DNA repair enzymes. In 2015 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to three scientists for their studies in DNA repair, validating the role of DNA repair enzymes in skin health.
Dr Moy began to formulate DNA Renewal products in order to help repair and reverse signs of ageing and improve overall skin health with effective and clean ingredients. Skin care is a science that DNA Renewal knows inside and out, which is why they source the best, most effective ingredients derived from natural material for all of the products.

Q&A with Dr Ronald L Moy
Q You have dedicated a significant amount of your life’s work to understanding the impact of photo damage on skin health and ageing. Talk me through the genesis of DNA Renewal skincare.
A As a dermatologist, skin cancer specialist and cosmetic surgeon in sunny Los Angeles for over 20 years, I saw skin cancer rates continue to rise first hand. People, especially in Beverly Hills, were spending tons of money on skin care products with no scientific integrity so the combined frustration of those two elements along with the results I saw in DNA Repair Enzyme research led me to realize I could help my patients immediately. This led me to starting my own skin care line.
Q What is the objective behind DNA repair enzymes? Why are they garnering such interest in the aesthetic industry?
A There has been such a lack of scientifically proven ingredients in the aesthetic industry that DNA Repair Enzymes are like a breath of fresh air. Finally, we have something that contributes to promoting skin health besides sunscreen. I think it’s clear the aesthetic industry in general needs ingredients that can actually yield scientific results.
Q The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2015 was awarded to three scientists for their studies in DNA repair. How does this validate the role DNA repair enzymes play in skin health?
A This awarding of the Nobel Prize signifies a shift in understanding and a sharp move away from the very vague ‘antioxidant’ theory we all have been buying into for so many years. I think we have been mired so long in the idea of ‘free radical damage’ (which by the way, is a theory from the 1950s) that we really needed hard, scientific recognition that we have the next generation of active ingredients.
Q How does applying an active DNA repair enzyme affect changes in the skin, in terms of new cell turnover, etc? How exactly does it help to repair DNA damage?
A DNA Repair Enzymes work as a seamstress; they seek out damaged DNA from UV damage, pollutants and aging and patch the rest of the DNA back together. This leads to healthier, less damaged skin, which aesthetically means less brown spots, wrinkles and dullness since those all tend to be signs of DNA damage. Growth Factor which is found in our Regeneration Serum (the only product in the line without DNA Repair Enzymes) is great for stimulating cell turnover.
Q How does DNA Renewal Skincare stand apart from other cosmeceutical ranges on the market?
A We have been the first to really start the DNA Repair Enzyme discussion in the retail/consumer world. It has been an uphill battle in an environment where everyone is still talking about antioxidants and big beauty brands are still pushing cheap ingredients so that has set us apart from other ranges. We take the science behind our formulations very seriously, which is why we package our products in test tube like bottles. We’ve also taken great pains to source our ingredients for purity and effectiveness that is why our Growth Factor comes from barley grown in pumice and our DNA Repair Enzymes come from plankton and algae plus all of our products are made in Southern California so as we are getting bigger we’re focused on keeping the integrity and quality of our ingredients as high as we can and as hands on as possible.
Q What’s your protocol for using DNA Renewal? How long does it take to see results?
A As an avid tennis player, I use the DNA Sheer Defense and the DNA Intensive Renewal religiously—and I make sure everyone else on the courts with me do as well. When you’re switching over skin routines it usually takes about 8 weeks to see visible results although we have customers coming in almost immediately and saying they’ve seen and felt a significant improvement in their skin in just a week or two after beginning.
Q Are there any exciting additions you’re working on for the range?
A Right now we’re working on supplements that boost the DNA Repair process as a study that is just out of Australia shows that twice daily 500mg of nicotinamide can cut the risk of new skin cancers. DNA Repair is a process that happens from the inside out so we’re excited to add that element to our skin care line.
Q Where do you see the future of anti-ageing/regenerative medicine, and what role do DNA repair enzymes play in this?
A The future of anti ageing, especially in terms of skin care products, will definitely be ‘gene creams’ that address the skin’s deeper biological concerns as they have to do with aging: DNA damage and stem cell stimulation. DNA Repair
Enzymes are probably just the beginning of this new understanding of skin care and skin care ingredients, but it shows the possibility of better ingredients for our patients.
