A new market has emerged in non-surgical body contouring – muscle toning and definition – and Cynosure’s new StimSure® technology is at the forefront.
The introduction of Cynosure’s StimSure muscle toning device heralds the new frontier of non-surgical body contouring. It is the newest addition to the Cynosure portfolio of body contouring products, making it the most complete selection in the industry. StimSure is a non-invasive electromagnetic technology used to strengthen and tighten the abdominal, gluteal and thigh muscles by contracting/stimulating the muscles, delivering up to 24,000 muscle contractions in just 20 to 30 minutes, the equivalent of 800 stomach crunches.

The shape of things to come
Non-surgical body-contouring procedures are increasing in popularity, rising 43 percent from 2017 and quadrupling since 2012, according to a 2019 report from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). For every one liposuction, there are more than 10 noninvasive body-sculpting treatments, according to the ASDS.
International research company GlobalData predicts noninvasive and minimally invasive fat-reduction procedures to be a $1.1 billion industry by 2022, as patients are prioritising in-office treatments with minimal downtime over surgical solutions.
Not surprisingly, the category is rapidly expanding, and the next wave are muscle-building treatments. In 2019 non-surgical muscle toning treatment had the highest year-over year growth (450%), according to the RealSelf Aesthetic Trends Report.
How Does StimSure Work?
Developed in conjunction with leading experts in international sports science and neuromuscular electromagnetic stimulation, the StimSure paddles generate an electromagnetic field that stimulates the motor neuron cells of the body’s muscles, causing the muscle to contract as it would during movement or exercise. A prolonged contraction, made by a series of individual twitch contractions back to back, creates a ‘maximal tetanic contraction’ that results in more efficient growth of muscle fibres.
StimSure uses 1.0 Tesla per applicator, providing an electromagnetic field that can engage the entire target muscle group. It can effectively target and tone the biceps, triceps, abdomen, buttocks, thighs and calves, offering patients smooth and defined body sculpting results.
There are four pre-set programs and the ability to create personalized programs on StimSure. The device is suitable for a wide range of people, but is not intended for weight loss, nor is it suitable for obese patients.
StimSure is simple to operate, with a secure fixing belt, and can be used through light clothing. Either one or two applicators can be used, and an applicator arm is available. For optimum results, six to eight treatments (twice a week) are recommended.
