Aptos has a proud history of thread lifting spanning 24 years and continues to go from strength to strength with the introduction of the excellence visage range.
In 1996 Dr Marlen Sulamanidze invented the first Aptos threads and thread lifting methods. Since then Aptos has produced a unique range of over 30 different types of threads for plastic and aesthetic surgery that have gained world-wide recognition and are now available in more than 50 countries.
Today, Aptos is still lead by thread lifting pioneer Dr Sulamanidze, together with his sons – Drs George and Konstantin Sulamanidze. The company still remains a family business with Dr George and Dr Konstantin taking an active role in the management of the company business. They are in constant demand to present at International symposia on the latest developments in thread lifting and have a busy global schedule. There are now over 11,000 doctors certified in the use of Aptos threads and thread lifting methods and this number is growing strongly each year.
Aptos thread composition is key to long lasting results
A significant development in thread lifting technology was the introduction by Aptos of a long lasting absorbable material consisting of polylactic acid (PLA) and polycapralactone (PCL) by Dr Sulamanidze. This unique combination of materials ensures long lasting thread lifting results as the thread is absorbed over a period of one and half to two years. During this long absorption time collagen type 1 and collagen type 3 is developed. The development of collagen types 1 and 3 results in the formation of a fibrous capsule that continues to hold soft tissues even after the thread is fully absorbed.
This prolonged tissue reaction (neocollagenesis) guarantees stable and long lasting results with the Aptos thread material. By contrast polydioxanone threads demonstrate an average absorption period of between 60 and 90 days. This short absorption time offers minimal collagenesis and a limited duration of thread lift effect. For this reason polydiaxanone threads are best indicated for skin rejuvenation rather than long term lift effect.
Excellence visage for facial lifting:
The Aptos Excellence range of threads appeared in 2013 with the main product in this range being Visage. The most notable feature of the Visage range is the unique multidirectional barb structure of the thread. This specific configuration allows for an even distribution of tension of the tissues along the entire length of the thread and the threedimensional arrangement of the barbs achieves a reliable strong fixation of the tissues.
A significant advantage of the Excellence Visage thread is that the thread is preinstalled in a special atraumatic cannula with a rounded tip. The rounded tip assists the practitioner to remain in the correct plane and is designed to separate and reposition tissue without any breaks thereby reducing the risk of perforation and making damage to the deeper structures practically impossible. Training is essential for best results.
It is not just the thread that produces the best result, equally important is the method and the skills applied. Mara Aesthetics conducts regular Aptos training workshops at their training centre South Pacific Cosmetic Academy to ensure all doctors are proficient with Aptos methods. Workshops are conducted by accredited Aptos trainers and include Initial and Advanced courses. On completion of the Initial course doctors have access to the extensive Aptos on-line video library with over 400 videos available in English. Training is conducted on a doctor-todoctor basis.
Mara Aesthetics regularly organises advanced training workshops in Georgia (Country of Georgia). These courses are very popular as participants have the opportunity to meet the pioneer of modern thread lifting methods – Dr Marlen Sulamanidze and co-inventors Drs George and Konstantin Sulamanidze.
