Address both deep and superficial resurfacing with Fraxel, a versatile dual fibre laser that offers outstanding results with minimal downtime.
Fraxel revolutionised skin resurfacing technology with a laser that is designed for all skin types and offers decreased recovery time and reduced risk of adverse events. It is an effective modality for the treatment of sun-damaged skin, pigmentation, actinic keratosis, melasma, acne and surgical scars, offering significant skin remodelling with limited downtime. Simply put, Fraxel reveals more radiant skin, stimulating cellular turnover and the growth of new cells and, in turn, bringing fresh, healthy, glowing skin back to the surface.
The versatility of Fraxel allows you to treat multiple skin concerns on the face, neck, chest and hands. Fraxel’s standout 1927nm wavelength is known for its precise, superficial zones of thermal coagulation which leaves an intact stratum corneum. It is commonly used for addressing epidermal lesions including actinic keratoses, dyschromia and hyperpigmentation, and general improvement in skin tone, texture and radiance. The 1550nm reaches deeper, penetrating the dermis layer and offering effective treatment for mild to moderate sagging, fine lines and wrinkles as well as textural irregularities, including acne and surgical scars.
Combining both Fraxel wavelengths – 1927nm and 1550nm – allows for a multi-layered treatment approach. Using both wavelengths in a single treatment session can achieve outstanding results and offer a comprehensive treatment for sun-damaged skin, pigmentation and wrinkles.
Q&A with Dr Ingrid Tall
Cosmetic Image Clinics, Brisbane
How long have you been using Fraxel in your clinic and why do you choose this laser?
We have used Fraxel in our clinic for 7 years. We chose this laser because of its dual function capabilities, treating both pigmentation and stimulating collagen. It was a results-driven choice for us.
Fraxel has been very effective in our clinic. Our clients love the ‘glow’ they are seeing from the improvement in skin texture and tone and the long-lasting results – up to a year post treatment in many cases.
Who are your typical patients and what are their most common skin concerns?
Our typical Fraxel client is a middle-aged professional woman who is concerned about skin blotchiness and crepiness and wants to smooth her complexion and look fresher.
How is Fraxel effective in the management of sun damage?
We tend to be more prematurely aged here in Queensland due to increased sun exposure and our high UV index. This leads to thin, crepey and pigmented skin, which can all be improved by Fraxel, and with fantastic results.
What advanced Fraxel techniques do you employ when treating sun damage?
Using dual wavelength treatment options (wavelengths 1550nm and 1927nm) that treat both the texture of the skin and pigmentation have yielded fantastic results for us
on sun-damaged skin. We also increase the intensity of the laser if the patient is a returning Fraxel client, giving us even better results.
If a patient has anti-ageing concerns, we typically treat with a dual setting, using 1550nm and 1927nm. However, we can use one wavelength or the other depending on the skin concerns. If pigmentation is the main concern, we treat with 1927nm.
We also treat hands, scars, neck, and decolletage regularly, with fantastic results on these areas that give our clients a real confidence boost. Just this week we treated scarring on a cleft lip repair with Fraxel. Scar treatment requires 6 treatments compared with 3, so this patient is on a treatment plan for maximum results but initial results are promising.
We also give patients the option of a ‘mini treatment’ if they want a shorter downtime while still yielding results.
What is the feedback from your patients?
My patients note their skin is fresher, more even in colour and tone, stronger and less crepey. We have a very high return rate for our Fraxel treatments, with the majority of our clients having multiple treatments.
Do you routinely combine Fraxel with other modalities?
We quite often combine treatments with Fraxel for improved results. Our favourite combination has been IPL and Fraxel. Because Fraxel does not target redness, we find the IPL covers that concern while Fraxel treats skin texture and strength.
How have you personally found the treatment?
I love it – I just had a Fraxel treatment last week! I have a treatment at least once a year. I also love the results on the neck. Necks can be very difficult to treat, but you can see obvious improvements in lines and wrinkles on necks after Fraxel treatment.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Fraxel is very easy for our practitioners to use and yields incredible results with minimum effort. We are aware not all patients are suitable for Fraxel treatment so are careful when recommending this service and take their history, goals and skin types into consideration. However, nearly all of our patients who have had an initial treatment return for regular follow-up. The results speak for themselves and most people can benefit from this treatment. AMP
OUR CLIENTS LOVE THE ‘GLOW’ THEY ARE SEEING FROM THE IMPROVE- MENT IN SKIN TEXTURE AND TONE AND THE LONG-LASTING RESULTS.
