Cell Cycle Catalyst serum by SkinCeuticals is an exciting new cell cycle amplifier which is unlike any other serum on the market.

Cell Cycle Catalyst tackles manifestations of ageing head-on, offering a comprehensive solution to speed up cellular turnover, boost cellular energy, stimulate barrier renewal and remove dead surface cells.

This daily serum includes a 7.7% Multi-Active Complex (AHAs and BHAs) to aid in cell turnover and 1% taurine (a powerful amino acid) to help increase cellular energy and vitality and to help maintain optimal cellular hydration.

Cell Cycle Catalyst has extensive clinical testing to support its efficacy, including alone, as the first step in various anti-ageing regimens, and as a preparatory step before non-ablative in-clinic treatments.

Ahead of the official launch of the new Cell Cycle Catalyst at the 2024 Non-Surgical Symposium and Breakfast Workshop on Saturday 15 June, AMP spoke with US board-certified dermatologist Dr Ted Lain to learn more about this new product and its applications in the aesthetic medical clinic.

What is cell cycling and why is it important for healthy skin?

Cell cycling refers to the turnover, or renewal, of the epidermis. It is important to ensure that the dead cells do not accumulate, which leads to dryness and roughness, as well as to allow for the removal of older, damaged cells.

How does SkinCeuticals’ Cell Cycle Catalyst (CCC) help to accelerate skin cell turnover, and by how much?

CCC accelerates the turnover time by 10-15% via very gentle exfoliation. Multiple different acids are combined to help instigate an acceleration of cell turnover, and taurine is added to give cells the energy to divide and replace the cells that are shedding off.

Why is the specific combination of ingredients — 7.7% Multi-Acid Complex and 1% Taurine – important?

The acids cause a superficial exfoliation. This signals the younger cells and stem cells to divide, but cells need energy to accomplish this, which is where taurine fits in. Taurine increases NAD+ in the mitochondria, which is akin to providing gas to the cells’ engine.

Can you talk about the clinical trials of CCC you conducted and share some of the key findings?

I performed a trial looking at whether CCC helped prepare the skin for a medium-depth chemical peel, and then looked at whether the product enhanced the results of the peel when used after. Interestingly, after just two weeks of use of this gentle exfoliating serum, patients were able to eliminate up to 100 microns of cellular debris from their skin.

Can you explain how CCC helps to increase the efficacy of at-home skincare regimens?

SkinCeuticals sponsored a truly innovative trial in which CCC was added to patients’ existing anti-ageing skincare regimens, to test whether CCC would enhance the effects of the other products. And this is exactly what we saw. After 8 weeks of using the CCC in addition to the existing anti-ageing regimen, patients experienced a 3-fold improvement of radiance and more than 2-fold improvement in fine lines, as compared with the anti-ageing regimen alone.

As a board-certified dermatologist, why do you choose to partner with SkinCeuticals?

I only recommend products with data supporting their use, which requires companies to invest in clinical trials. Dr Sheldon Pinell founded SkinCeuticals after his research revealed the incredible benefits of topical Vitamin C; SkinCeuticals continues his legacy by releasing innovative products only after they have been proven in trials to show efficacy.
