The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has released a further iteration of its 2022 Nurses and Cosmetic Procedures Position Statement and there is information that all nurses must be aware of with regard to laser safety training.
The Board states that nurses working in the area of cosmetic medical procedures must know and comply with organisational requirements and relevant state, territory and Commonwealth requirements as jurisdictional differences are common.
The NMBA quotes the Australian/New Zealand Standard 2018 Guide to the safe use of lasers in health care, stating that nurses must know about and comply with the standard by completing a recognised laser safety certification and other state or territory requirement/s before performing any laser or IPL treatment.
If you are a nurse and need a laser safety certificate that has been recognised by the Australian College of Nursing and state radiation health boards, Bravura Education’s offers laser and IPL safety training courses for aesthetic practitioners.
