The company is an expert at developing and commercialising energy-based technologies such as laser, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and radiofrequency (RF), and currently holds more than 220 patents worldwide. Lumenis also boasts an active installed base of more than 80,000 systems.

When it comes to aesthetic medicine, Lumenis has a range of devices that support hair and tattoo removal, skin resurfacing, vaginal rejuvenation, and the treatment of burns, scars, leg veins and pigmented and vascular lesions.

Through its partnerships with over 1,000 professionals, Lumenis has created a portfolio of best-in-class products that deliver reliable results for practitioners and their patients.

A history of innovation

While the foundations for Lumenis were laid in 1966 when Coherent created the rst medical laser for ophthalmology, the Lumenis name only emerged in 2001 as the result of a merger that saw Coherent, ESC and Sharplan unite. Since then, Lumenis has grown to become an industry-leading and internationally recognised service organisation.

In 1993, ESC brought IPL technology to the aesthetic laser industry. This development changed the eld of aesthetic medicine as
it allowed practitioners to treat multiple issues at once with a
range of wavelengths and a sophisticated algorithm.

Five years later, Vasculight® launched and with it came the concept of multi-application systems. These systems sparked a demand for non-invasive procedures with lower downtime and fewer associated risks, a trend which has been on the rise ever since. Lumenis’ best-selling M22 system emerged as a result of this advancement. M22 uses four different non-ablative technologies to rejuvenate the skin while prioritising patient comfort.

Another revolutionary breakthrough came in the mid- 2000s with the release of fractional CO2 lasers. In 2005, Lumenis launched the UltraPulse ActiveFX, the world’s rst fractional CO2 laser. This was soon followed by the world’s rst micro-fractional CO2 laser, the UltraPulse DEEPFX. These new devices further reduced downtime, while producing less adverse events and bringing forth new options for skin rejuvenation.

In 2012, the UltraPulse SCAARFX launched. This was the rst fractional CO2 laser to impact up
to 4mm in depth for the effective treatment of scars.

In the recent years, the use of CO2 laser has expanded into
new areas. In 2015, Lumenis introduced FemTouch, a vaginal CO2 laser procedure designed
to enhance women’s health.
This treatment delivers CO2 laser energy to the vaginal wall, allowing for the stimulation of new tissue growth through the triggering of collagen production.
