PCA Skin, distributed in Australia by Advanced Skin Technology, is introducing new ingredients and innovative formulations designed to work synergistically with cosmetic treatments.

Cosmetic patients are going to buy skincare. Whether it’s in-clinic or in department stores, they’re going to make the purchase either way. The key to stocking skincare in-clinic is consistent patient education on the quality of ingredients and the potential of certain products to enhance and sustain that patient’s aesthetic investment.

PCA Skin, distributed in Australia by Advanced Skin Technology, is a range of skincare and chemical peels designed to work synergistically with cosmetic treatments – improving results and bringing patients one step closer to making a purchase in-store.

“What we’re focusing on right now is combining quality daily care with other modalities,” explains aesthetician and PCA educator Michelle Goldsmith. “We have products that use specific ingredients and peptides to assist in skin healing after surgery.

“One of our serums contains neuropeptides – Argireline or Acetyl Hexapeptide 8 specifically – that will support the injection of botulinum toxin to the skin. This could be offered at a discount in-clinic on the day of an injectable treatment, for example,” Goldsmith adds.

The idea of supporting and sustaining results with skincare is not new, however PCA Skin takes this idea and raises it to new levels of efficacy and results.

Vitamin C, certain peptides and vitamin A have all been shown to improve the appearance of the skin.

The PCA Skin range of homecare products includes ingredients such as 0.5% pure retinol; the newest generation of Matrixyl (Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 or Matrixyl Synthe’6); and 20% L-Ascorbic Acid combined with 5% pure vitamin E – the first pure vitamin E available at this concentration.

“If a patient is coming in for treatment with deeper dermal fillers, why not support and protect their investment by continuing that process at home?” Goldsmith asks. “Making quality skincare available in-clinic continues revenue coming into the practice, and strengthens the relationship between the clinic and the patient. It also contributes to the patient’s overall health and wellbeing”.

PCA Skin Peel

Modified Enhanced Jessner’s Peels were the product that put PCA Skin on the map in the early 1990s. PCA Skin is dedicated to providing practitioners with highly customisable and applicable treatments to enhance patient results and contribute to the clinic’s overarching value offering.

“The founder of our company was the innovator of the very first Modified Enhanced Jessner’s Peel,” says Goldsmith. “In 1996, the
PCA Peel was launched in three formulations. These peels were the first of their kind in the medical and aesthetic markets, and are still part of the PCA Skin line today.”

Fast forward to 2015, and PCA Skin has a range of 14 professional peels, as well as four therapeutic masks and various alternative treatments – including an oxygenating treatment.

“Customisation is at the heart of PCA Skin Professional Treatments,’ Goldsmith explains. “During our professional treatments, the treatment is left on the skin and professional serums are layered on top – depending on the needs of that patient’s skin.”

“When peels were first introduced, it was all about taking away, or stripping the skin to generate the wound healing response. Today,
our peels are about giving back and putting ingredients into the skin to help with skin redness, hydration and fine lines and wrinkles.”
Such changes in the formulation and approach of chemical peels since they first entered the aesthetic market has left a glaring gap in consumer consciousness. And, according to Goldsmith, practitioner communication is key in securing an optimal outcome.

“In the mind of many consumers, the word ‘peel’ is either going to scare them (especially when referring to chemical peels) or make them dissatisfied – because they’re not actually going to peel,” says Goldsmith. “Communication between the clinician and the patient is very important – the client has to understand the treatment as a whole and not just the word ‘peel’. PCA peels are creating change at a cellular level – they are designed to correct specific problems, not just remove skin layers.” AMP

Recent innovations at PCA Skin

Ideal Complex Revitalising Eye Gel and Eye Cream

This eye treatment formula is available in both gel and cream textures. It is approved for use on the actual eyelid, an area that is contraindicated in most eye treatments.

It contains Myristoyl Nonapeptide-3, which is a novel peptic that mimics retinoic acid without the irritation; Boron Nitride, to reflect light and detract from dark circles; as well as Matrixyl Synthe’6 to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

One study, conducted by PCA Skin, found 90 percent of patients experienced an improvement in skin laxity, wrinkling, puffiness and dark circles after regular use.

C&E Strength and C&E Strength Max

These are the only corrective products currently available on the market that optimise the synergy between high percentages of pure L-ascorbic acid (at 15% and 20%) and pure tocopherol (at 5%). This is the highest concentration of pure vitamin E available on the market.

The ingredients are encased in a silicon-based delivery system that provides an ongoing supply of key actives, and also mattifies skin upon application.

Perfecting Neck and Décolleté

A product of actives formulated specifically for the neck and décolleté, this cream contains the newest generation of Matrixyl, as well as Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

As well as this, Heat Shock Protein HSP47 is used to support the Matrixyl action, and Calcium Hydroymethionine is included to address thin, lax and fragile skin. Finally, Niacinamide and retinol are also incorporated – making Perfecting Neck and Décolleté a comprehensive and proactive solution to younger-looking skin in an area of concern to most cosmetic patients.
