How MonaLisa Touch, a fractional CO2 laser treatment for vaginal atrophy, can give your practice the competitive advantage.

To date, cosmetic clinics have primarily been concerned with facial rejuvenation, but a growing number of women are after a simple way to improve vaginal atrophy and its associated symptoms. MonaLisa Touch, a revolutionary laser treatment for vaginal rejuvenation, offers a solution – improving symptoms of vaginal atrophy for better quality of life.

Symptoms of vaginal atrophy such as incontinence, itching, dryness and pain during intercourse affects around 50 percent of women during their lifetime. It affects not only peri- and post-menopausal women but also women after childbirth, who suffer from laxity and no longer enjoying intercourse.

MonaLisa Touch uses non- surgical fractional CO2 Dot Therapy Laser to restore vaginal tissue, without the need to use pessaries or intravaginal oestrogen cream.

“The MonaLisa Touch is a simple, quick, painless, hassle-free alternative and can be used in women who are not candidates for hormonal treatments, such as the many women suffering from breast cancer,” says Perth plastic surgeon Dr Anh Nguyen. “MonaLisa Touch is revolutionary solution to a widespread yet unspoken problem.”

The treatment is performed without anaesthesia, in less than five minutes. The individual concerns of women of all age groups can be addressed, including those previously untreatable with conventional hormonal treatment.

“It has made my practice more complete in that I can offer women of all ages and stages of life something that may help them regain their confidence,” Dr Nguyen says. “There is a huge demand for treatments that can help women with vaginal atrophy – a problem so common among women.”

The recommended treatment protocol for vaginal atrophy is a course of three to five treatments and for vaginal tightening, one to three treatments. The majority of patients return to normal activity immediately post-procedure. The results generally last 12-18 months. A top up treatment may be required, due to individual results and needs.

Satisfied patients

In Australia, more than 6,000 patients have been treated with Mona Lisa touch. In a survey of 200 patients, 99 percent reported an amelioration of symptoms and would recommend to their friends.

“In the first 200 women we treated, 99 percent have noticed an overall improvement in symptoms and would recommend it to their friends,” says Dr Nguyen. “Some have had spectacular results, reporting they no longer need to wear their incontinence pads and can now socialise, exercise and enjoy life to the full. Others are not troubled by urinary frequency and urgency anymore, so they can plan longer trips and sleep through the night. Many women have come back letting us know they have had intercourse for the first time in years and are enjoying it. As well, several partners have reported the boost to their wives’ confidence.”

Mona Lisa touch is an easy add-on to a cosmetic practice and as such a practice builder. Vaginal rejuvenation can be life changing. Rejuvenation is not just about the face!

How MonaLisa Touch works

The MonaLisa Touch procedure results in a hydrated and turgid mucosa, which functions likeSmartxide-V2LR-MonaLisaTouch1 healthy, younger tissue.

During menopause, a dry mucosa with a low water content in the connective tissue is less nourished and therefore more fragile and prone to infection.

As it is the mucosal fibrocytes that are metabolically quiescent, as opposed to fibroblasts, the mucosa is unable to produce hyaluronic acid and other molecules necessary for an adequate glycoprotein ground matrix.

Treatment with CO2 laser helps recover pre- menopausal metabolic activity by synthesising the production of collagen, hyaluronic acid, glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans.

To achieve this, the MonaLisa Touch probe uses a specifically modified pulse shape of fractional CO2 laser energy, suited to the vaginal mucosa. The specific emission characteristics allow the energy load to be transferred directly to the mucosa, preventing excessive localised thermal damage.
