Onda is the new device from Deka that harnesses smart microwave technology for body contouring applications including localised fat deposits, cellulite and skin tightening.

As soon as you mention cellulite in a clinical setting, practitioners start rolling their eyes and shaking their heads. Until now there have been many devices that have promised much and delivered little. But Onda (Italian for ‘wave’), made by DEKA in Italy, is a game-changer in body contouring and cellulite treatment. Results are impressive and long-lasting.

It uses Coolwaves microwave energy and is the rst device to harness microwave frequencies that target deeper layers, while keeping the skin cool and comfortable.
Onda treats fat pockets, cellulite and skin laxity at the same time.

Microwaves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum (frequency range: 1-300GHz and are common in many areas of everyday life, from the medical field for diagnostic or treatment purposes to kitchens for heating and cooking food.

There is no other device that emits microwaves in the same way as the Onda system’s smart handpieces. Microwaves are absorbed by molecules in the target tissue, which
causies them to oscillate and heat up. The Onda handpieces generate microwaves at 2.45GHz, a frequency that is preferentially absorbed by fat molecules rather than by water molecules. The epidermis and the dermis of the skin contain a high percentage of water but little fat.

Therefore, when the Coolwaves penetrate the skin, they pass straight through the top layers without depositing excessive heat (about 20% of the thermal effect from
the microwaves). The majority of the Coolwaves energy affects the subcutaneous fat, which is heated far more rapidly that the skin (about 80% of the thermal effect).

In contrast, traditional radio frequency (RF) systems, which act in the frequency range 0.1 – 40 MHz, deposit energy mainly on the skin surface due to a high absorption by water molecules. This means that they not only fail to penetrate deep into the body to treat fat, but they also risk discomfort and excessive heating of the skin. This is not the case for Onda, which has three main targets: localised fat deposits, cellulite and loose and sagging skin.

Localised fat deposits: The deep handpiece enables Coolwaves to penetrate deeply, disrupting the membranes of subcutaneous fat cells. The lysate is subsequently drained off by stimulation of physiological metabolic processes (macrophage lipolysis). The cooling system integrated into the handpieces ensures that the skin remains cool for maximum patient comfort.

Cellulite: The shallow handpiece effectively targets the connective septa between the adipose globules in the more advanced stages of cellulite, visible as the typical ‘orange peel’ effect.

Skin tightening: The microwaves induce immediate shrinkage of the collagen fibres in the dermis and stimulate the production of new collagen, resulting in firmer and more toned tissues.

It takes about three treatments for lasting results and is favoured by patients for price point, comfort and visible improvement. AMP
