What are extremozymes and how do they help protect DNA and other vital structures from environmental aggressors?
Extremozymes are enzymes made by plants living in extreme environments that protect the plant’s DNA and thereby allow the plant to survive in severe environments. Extremozyme technology is used in iS Clinical products to help protect our own human skin from environmental stresses.
What are the skin manifestations when DNA is damaged?
Examples of skin manifestations from DNA damage include loss of vitality and luminosity, hyperpigmentation, signs of photoageing, decrease/loss of youthful appearance, and development of skin cancer.
DNA within the chromosomes in the nucleus of the skin cell serves as the command centre of the cell, directing the cell’s functioning. If this DNA is damaged by free radicals and environmental stresses, the DNA does not function properly and gives incomplete or incorrect messages in directing the cell’s function.
